Sonic's $5.7M Settlement Over Data Breach Gets Judge's OK

By Joyce Hanson (May 12, 2022, 7:36 PM EDT) — An Ohio federal judge has preliminarily signed off on Sonic Corp.’s $5.7 million settlement with financial institutions over a 2017 data breach at the burger chain that compromised millions of credit and debit card numbers, saying the deal reflects substantial mediation sessions with a magistrate judge.

U.S. District Judge James S. Gwin said in his Tuesday opinion and order that Sonic and the financial institutions negotiated in at least three full-day mediation sessions with Magistrate Judge Jonathan D.
