PCPD Commissioner: Anti-doxxing law ‘heralds new era’ in data protection

In an op-ed for the South China Morning Post, Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data Ada Chung Lai-ling said Hong Kong’s anti-doxxing privacy law “heralds a new era in the regulatory protection of personal data.� The Personal Data (Privacy) (Amendment) Ordinance criminalizes disclosure of an individual’s personal data without consent and empowers the commissioner to conduct criminal investigations and institute prosecution for doxxing-related offences. Lai-ling said the law “effectively combats the crime by increasing the privacy commissioner’s enforcement powers.�
