OPC will investigate IRCC breach compromising Afghani refugees

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada opened a formal investigation into the breach that compromised data and potentially the safety of hundreds of Afghani refugees, CBC reports. After Conservatives sent a letter to the privacy commissioner, Deputy Privacy Commissioner Brent Homan wrote the office was “opening an investigation into this matter based on (the Conservatives’) complaint.” The breach exposed the names and some faces of more than 200 Afghani visa applicants after multiple emails were erroneously sent by the immigration office.
