NOYB complaint accuses Grindr of violating EU GDPR

NOYB has filed a formal complaint alleging the biometric data collection practices of adult dating application Grindr violate the EU General Data Protection Regulation, Biometric Update reports. The group accuses the app of requiring individuals to submit a photograph of themselves disclosing their passport and email address in order to obtain personal data collected by the platform. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published a patent application for a device to unlock Royal Caribbean cruise ship bedroom doors using facial recognition, Biometric Update reports. The “multifunction smart door deviceâ€� could be controlled by users’ mobile phones and includes features like an electronic peephole and controlled access for authorized crew members.
