No Computer Fraud Coverage For Social Engineering Loss

By Daniel Tay (August 15, 2022, 4:20 PM EDT) — A Minnesota federal court rejected a computer store’s bid for coverage of a $600,000 social engineering loss under computer fraud provisions of its crime policy, holding the attack was covered only under the lower limits of the policy’s social engineering fraud provisions.

The court on Friday dismissed SJ Computers LLC’s lawsuit against Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. of America with prejudice, agreeing with the insurer that the computer store could get coverage for the loss only up to the policy’s $100,000 sublimit on social engineering fraud.
