Nigeria seeks consultant for new data protection bill draft

Nigeria’s federal government abandoned a data protection bill completed in 2020 and is appropriating funds to engage a consultant on a new draft, the Premium Times reports. An advertisement by the National Identity Management Commission said the government seeks “a consulting firm to provide legal advice to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in order to help develop and implement the legal framework, institutional and regulatory capacity for data protection, cybersecurity and ID systems.�
