By Tom Zanki (January 21, 2022, 8:25 PM EST) — Initial public offerings are off to a bumpy start in 2022, evidenced by several delayed offerings and mixed performances among companies that have gone public amid choppy conditions, chilling the near-term outlook for IPO prospects.

The slow activity stands in contrast to the breakneck pace of 2021, when companies went public in droves and raised record levels of new capital. Matthew Kennedy, a senior strategist at pre-IPO institutional research provider Renaissance Capital, said some slowdown was expected given that IPO returns began to slump late last year.
