Infrastructure bill calls for research on bicyclist, pedestrian transponders

The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that passed last week formalizes the acceptance of “vehicle to everything” technology and expanded research on connected vehicle technology, Forbes reports. The bill includes researching “incorporating bicyclists and other vulnerable road users into the safe deployment of connected vehicle systems,â€� including potential beacons that could enable bicyclists and pedestrians equipped with transponders to be detected by connected cars. The bill states a report will be submitted to Congress within two years.
