House Members Eye Path Forward For Federal Privacy Law

By Allison Grande (June 14, 2022, 10:43 PM EDT) — House lawmakers on both sides of the aisle pledged Tuesday to forge ahead with what they’re calling the strongest chance yet to enact long elusive federal privacy legislation, while stakeholders urged changes such as eliminating consumers’ ability to sue and strengthening protections for kids.  

The House Commerce Committee’s subcommittee on consumer protection and commerce convened a broad range of witnesses from the consumer advocacy and business communities to gather feedback on a bicameral and bipartisan discussion draft of a national privacy framework that was floated on June 3 by a key trio of Congressional leaders.
