Google Parent Investors Seek Cert. In 2018 Data Leak Suit

By Lauren Berg (June 22, 2022, 9:41 PM EDT) — Alphabet Inc. shareholders asked a California federal judge Tuesday to grant them class certification in their suit accusing Google’s parent company of deceiving investors about a bug that exposed half a million users’ data in 2018.

The investors, led by the state of Rhode Island on behalf of the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island, asked for class treatment for the potentially thousands of shareholders, saying that there are so many proposed class members with identical claims that separating all their cases would be impracticable.
