FTC recommends steps to help businesses defend against ransomware threats

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recommended two preventive steps to help small businesses boost digital defenses against ransomware risks. The agency suggests technology teams follow best practices to defend against a ransomware attack, including establishing offline, off-site, encrypted backups of essential business data. Companies should also educate employees on security practices. “A small business’s best defense is a workforce trained in the tricks that cybercriminals are likely to use,� the FTC said, urging businesses to “shore up your defenses through technology and training.�
