FTC Brings Privacy Suit Against Co. Challenging Its Authority

By Allison Grande (August 29, 2022, 7:12 PM EDT) — The Federal Trade Commission is moving forward with a lawsuit against mobile app analytics provider Kochava Inc., which the agency claims is unlawfully selling geolocation information that can be used to track people to reproductive health care clinics and other sensitive places.

In a complaint filed in Idaho federal court on Monday, the FTC accused Idaho-based Kochava of violating Section 5 of the FTC Act by selling geolocation data derived from hundreds of millions of mobile devices that can be used to identify and track specific users to and from sensitive locations, including reproductive health clinics, places of worship, homeless and domestic…
