Experts See Chance To Fix Digital Divide, Worry About Waste

By Christopher Cole (May 6, 2022, 7:16 PM EDT) — Republican Federal Communications Commission members said at an event Friday they see the biggest chance yet to bridge the U.S. digital divide through federal investment, but warned waste and fraud loom as severe barriers to deployment.

Former Democratic Commissioner Mignon Clyburn agreed that the country is poised to fix major gaps in broadband infrastructure with massive amounts of new funding, but said those efforts will fall short if federal agencies don’t fully cooperate.
