DOJ Says China Tried To Derail US Congressional Campaign

By Daniel Wilson (March 16, 2022, 3:21 PM EDT) — The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday unveiled three cases alleging that people acting on behalf of a Chinese intelligence agency targeted pro-democracy activists and dissidents within the U.S., including a current congressional candidate.

Prosecutors unsealed criminal complaints filed against five defendants in New York federal court purporting that they had harassed and unlawfully surveilled members of the Chinese diaspora within the U.S. at the behest of the Chinese government, including its Ministry of State Security, or MSS, a “secret police” agency.
