DC AG Claims Mark Zuckerberg Is Liable For 2016 Data Breach

Racine hit Mark Zuckerberg with a consumer protection lawsuit in D.C. court Monday, accusing the Meta CEO of encouraging lax data protection policies that allowed Facebook to rake in profits while opening the door for the 2016 Cambridge Analytica data breach.

In a 33-page complaint, the D.C. attorney general alleges Zuckerberg violated D.C.’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act by publicly claiming to want to protect user data while insisting behind closed doors that Facebook’s policies be “as simple as we can get away with.”
