Dark patterns crackdown on the horizon?

NBC News reports on the possibility of impending regulations coming from multiple regulatory organizations against manipulative practices using dark patterns. U.S. Congress, consumer protection agencies including the Federal Trade Commission, nonprofits, and academics have stated plans in the last year to further scrutinize the use of dark patterns on websites. The FTC issued a statement Nov. 4 with specific guidance regarding negative option practices for both organizations and courts.
