Commerce Blacklists 37 Cos. For Iran, China Military Ties

By Grace Dixon (December 16, 2021, 4:07 PM EST) — The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Thursday that it’s adding 37 foreign companies to an economic blacklist for their ties to Chinese and Iranian military programs, including research institutes it says are helping China develop “purported brain-control technology.”

Commerce added several dozen companies based in China, Malaysia, Georgia and Turkey to the Entity List, meaning they’ll be denied licenses to export items of national security concern absent extraordinary circumstances. Commerce accused a number of the companies of funneling U.S. goods to China and Iran’s defense industries and aiding China’s military modernization efforts.
