Effective cybersecurity oversight should start at the top — with executives and boards of directors.

In March, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued its long-anticipated proposed new cybersecurity disclosure rules for public issuers. The rules would create regulatory standards to implement this approach to cybersecurity by requiring certain cybersecurity-related disclosures in public filings signed by corporate officers and disclosure of cybersecurity expertise held by any members of the board of directors.
