Amazon's Ring Urges 9th Circ. To Upend Arbitration Denial

By Allison Grande (November 19, 2021, 9:12 PM EST) — Amazon unit Ring LLC is pushing the Ninth Circuit to overturn a ruling that refused to send to arbitration hacking claims brought by children and a nursing home resident, arguing that those users were bound to arbitration even though they had not personally purchased the company’s smart-home devices. 

In an opening brief filed Thursday, Ring rallied against a California district judge’s June decision that 12 minor children and an elderly nursing home resident who claimed that Ring’s home security systems exposed them to cyberattacks were not covered by the user agreements entered into by their parents and guardians, who purchased and registered the allegedly…
